Explore import taxes & duties info

For your convenience, please note that you may be subject to VAT and/or other taxes upon receiving your product. You can consider making your purchase through our Etsy store https://www.etsy.com/shop/ClayLody. Here, they will take care of calculating and collecting any customs charges and VAT for you during the checkout process.

However, if your order falls below the De minimis value (a value threshold below which imported goods are exempt from customs duties and taxes) of your country, you can choose to shop via our website.

We have gathered information on de minimis values from the provided URLs for your preliminary consideration. However, it’s crucial to recognize that these policies and fees can differ greatly between countries. Regardless, we cannot offer specific advice or details in individual cases and possible additional charges.

Please refer to the De minimis values below for the US, the UK, EU, Singapore, Japan and Australia as examples.

Kindly note that the information below may contain inaccuracies. For precise details, refer to your local customs agency, as regulations vary by country. We cannot confirm the full accuracy of this information and will not be held responsible for any errors. This information is intended for preliminary reference only.

The US

  • De Minimis Threshold: USD $800 (US Dollars)

  • This means that goods imported into the US with a total value below USD $800 are generally exempt from customs duties.

  • State and Local Sales Taxes: The De Minimis threshold is for federal customs duties, not state and local sales taxes. These taxes may still apply depending on the destination state and the type of good being imported.

  • Important Update (as of May 2, 2025):
The U.S. has revoked the de minimis exemption for goods imported from China and Hong Kong. Low-value shipments from those locations may now be subject to customs duties regardless of value.

EU

  • De Minimis Threshold: €150 (Euros)

  • This means that goods imported into the EU from outside the union with a total value below €150 are generally exempt from customs duties. However, VAT (Value Added Tax) still applies to all imported goods.
    [taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu]

  • The current standard VAT rate in the EU is 20%, but some member states may have reduced rates for specific goods.

  • Additional handling fees may apply depending on the delivery service and destination country.

Singapore

  • De Minimis Threshold: SGD $400 (Singapore Dollars)

  • Since January 2023, GST is extended to goods imported via air or post that are valued up to and including the current GST import relief threshold of S$400, through the Overseas Vendor Registration regime.[www.customs.gov.sg]

  • Even with the De Minimis threshold, items may still be subject to additional duties or restrictions based on the type of good. It’s recommended to check with Singapore Customs for specific details.

Japan

  • De Minimis Threshold: ¥10,000 (Japanese Yen)

  • Those goods at a total customs value of 10,000 yen or less shall be exempted from taxation of customs duty and consumption tax.

Australia

  • De Minimis Threshold: AUD $1,000 (Australian Dollars)

  • Sales of goods that are to be imported into Australia that have a customs value at or below $1,000 can be non-taxable importations
    [www.ato.gov.au]

  • GST (Goods and Services Tax) might still apply to imports into Australia, but since we’re a small shop and our sales to Australia don't meet the threshold for GST registration, we don’t collect it at checkout. This means for orders under AUD $1,000 (excluding certain restricted goods like alcohol/tobacco), your order falls below the threshold where GST is typically managed at the point of import by Australian authorities.

Here are some additional points to keep in mind:
  • De Minimis thresholds are subject to change, so it’s always best to consult the latest official sources for the most accurate information.

  • There may be exceptions to these general rules, so it’s important to check with the customs authorities of the destination country for specific details.

  • The De Minimis threshold only applies to customs duties and not to other import charges, such as processing fees or excise taxes.

Additionally, while we strive to provide accurate and comprehensive information, it may not always be complete or up to date. We encourage you to use your discretion and verify any details with reliable government sources in the respective countries where you intend to have your order shipped.

Our shop is based in Thailand, so this policy change does not affect our shipments. However, standard U.S. import regulations, including state taxes, may still apply.

As a small business based in Thailand, we have not reached the sales threshold for GST or VAT registration in any overseas markets. Therefore, we are not required to charge or collect GST, VAT, or similar taxes at the point of sale.

Please note that import taxes, duties, and local sales taxes may still apply upon delivery depending on your country’s regulations and the value of your order. We encourage you to check with your local customs or tax authorities for specific details.

If you have any concerns about taxes, you may also choose to purchase from our Etsy store, where applicable local taxes and regulations are handled accordingly.
